Topeka Crime Statistics

The slides you see break down property and violent crime statistics for the entire city, and then specifically the west side of Topeka and  the East side of Topeka. The 2 sides of town are separated to correspond to the way patrol operations and radio frequencies are separated.

These statistics are valid up through November 21st 2017. The numbers you see compare week 2016 to week 2017; month 2016 to month 2017 and year to date 2016 to year to date 2017.

For example, on the first slide for Citywide statistics on violent crime-

Week to week comparisons show the city is up by 7 crimes-noted with the “+” in Homicide,Rape,Robbery to Business and Aggravated Assault/Battery.

Month to month comparisons show the City has seen a decline of 13 crimes- noted by the “-” in homicide,rape,robbery to individual and Aggravated Assault/Battery.

Year to year comparison illustrates the City has seen an increase of 46 crimes- noted by the “+” in the homicides,robbery to individual,robbery to business and Aggravated Assault/Battery.

Victim Identified in homicide 1200 blk SE Long

Homicide in the 1200 Blk of SE Long



On Monday, November 27th, 2017 at 12:51 am Topeka Police Officers were dispatched to the 1200 blk of SE Long in reference a shooting that had just occurred. Upon Officers arrival they located an adult male subject that was suffering from a gunshot wound. Unfortunately, the victim did succumb to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by AMR and the Topeka Fire Department.

Patrol Officers, Canine, Detectives and Crime Scene investigators are currently investigating this incident, there more information to follow.

UPDATE** The victim has been identified as Faustino Vasquez, 46 **

Robbery to local business in early morning hours

Robbery to local Restaurant in early morning hours
TOPEKA, Kan.- At 3:40 in the morning, a local restaurant at 17th and Wanamaker reported a person armed with a knife had come into the business and demanded money.
The business employees reported a black male approximately 6 ft tall wearing a black mask, black sweatshirt and black jeans showed a knife and demanded money. The individual locked all the employees into a room and then left unknown direction or method of travel with an unknown amount of currency.
On arrival, Topeka Police K-9s began tracking from the business in a southeasterly direction. Officers recovered property from the business several blocks to the east.
