The Topeka Police Department has received reports from consumers indicating they are receiving calls from IRS impersonators.
If you get a call from someone claiming to be with the IRS asking for a payment, here’s what to do:
If you owe Federal taxes, or think you might owe taxes, hang up and call the IRS at 800-829-1040. IRS workers can help you with your payment questions.
If you do not owe taxes, fill out the “IRS Impersonation scam” form on TIGTA’s website, www.tigta.gov, or call TIGTA at 800-366-4484.
You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at www.FTC.gov. Add “IRS Telephone Scam” to the comments in your complaint.

Jessie Hughes, 19, of Topeka turned himself in to the Law Enforcement Center on Wednesday July 6th around 7:00 p.m. He was arrested on warrants issued as a result of a shooting incident on SW 37th Terrace.
TOPEKA, Kan. – The Topeka Police Department requests the public’s help in seeking a person of
interest. Jessie Hughes, 19 of Topeka, is being sought in regards to two counts of Aggravated Battery,
two counts of Aggravated Assault, and two counts of Child Endangerment as a result of a shooting
incident on SW 37th Terrace on May 17th, 2016. The suspect left the area in a brown four-door car. He is
considered armed and dangerous.
