TPD has Chief for a Day

Topeka Police Department Chief Bill Cochran handed over his badge to Chief Miles Harris today. Miles Harris, age 9, got to be the Chief for a Day after becoming the TPD’s 911 Hero.

Miles became the 911 Hero after his quick thinking helped save his grandparents lives. His grandparents were outside working on their house when the scaffolding collapsed. Miles was outside playing at the time & ran inside to call 911 for help. His grandma is still in the hospital with a brain injury, but his grandfather was able to come with Miles today despite a broken arm & ribs.

As Chief for the Day, Miles got to tour the TPD and see the different departments including the K-9 Unit, Motorcycle Unit, Bike Unit, SWAT vehicles & even got to operate one of the Bomb Squads robots. He also took over Chief Cochran’s media duties & was interviewed by KSNT News & WIBW.

Miles said he had a “very good time” and was especially excited to finish off the day with pizza. Great job, Miles!
